The American Society of Home Inspectors Takes an Official Position Recommending Photoelectric Smoke Alarms:

At the January 2013 Board of Directors Meeting, The American Society of Home Inspectors Adopted the Following Position on Photoelectric Smoke Alarms:

1. All homes must be equipped with smoke alarms.

2. Given recent studies, ASHI recommends the use of photoelectric smoke alarms instead of ionization smoke alarms or combination smoke alarms.

3. ASHI recommends that consumers educate themselves on this matter and decide what best meets their needs.
